The aim of this course is to provide you with the knowledge and skills to progress whilst providing you with the opportunity to develop. This programme covers both an Award in Babysitting and Level 2 Certificate in an Introduction to Caring for Children and Young People, where will undertake a minimum of 250 hours in placement which is a great opportunity for you to gain a better understanding of how your studies relate to experiences within the workplace.
Successful completion of this programme could allow you to progress onto a relevant Level 3 Early Years Educator programme or apprenticeship, preparing you for employment within the sector.
During the course of the programme, you will study the following: Keeping Children Safe in a Babysitting Environment; Craft Activities with Young Children; Children and Young People Development and Safeguarding the Welfare of Children and Young People.
You will need 4 GCSEs to include Mathematics and English Language (minimum grade D). If you are progressing from Level 1 Childcare or Health and Social Care, you are required to have achieved your qualification and have also achieved Maths and English at GCSE Grade D or Functional Skills Level 2.
You are also required to have two good references (one must be from an employer or a recent school/college report) and be successful at interview, showing appropriate communication skills for working with children and completing a set written assessment.
It is essential for all candidates to have an enhanced DBS check before they can go into any Health and Social Care setting. Candidates must be aware that if they have received a caution, reprimand or conviction it may prohibit them from enrolling on a Health and Social Care programme and gaining employment in a care or childcare setting.
Assessment is a combination of written assignments, reflective journals, group work and practical assessments of skills.
