This course is delivered over a two-year period, allowing you to develop your skills and understanding within the childcare sector. You will undertake a range of placements in each year to include: babies; toddlers; pre-school and a short placement in key stage 1.
Successful completion of this programme could allow you to progress into Higher Education, accessing a range of childcare and education courses, or preparing you for employment.
During the course of the programme, you will study the following: Child Development; Safeguarding; Health and Safety; Play and Observation; Assessment and Planning.
You will need 5 GCSEs to include Mathematics and English Language (minimum grade C).
If you are progressing from CACHE Level 2 Childcare, you are required to have achieved your qualification and have also achieved Maths and English Language at GCSE Grade C or above.
If you are progressing for BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care, you are required to have achieved your qualification and received a Distinction grade for all units and have also achieved Maths and English Language at GCSE Grade C or above.
You are also required to have two good references (one must be from an employer or a recent school/college report) and be successful at interview, showing appropriate communication skills for working with children and completing a set written assessment.
It is essential for all candidates to have an enhanced DBS check before they can go into any Health and Social Care setting. Candidates must be aware that if they have received a caution, reprimand or conviction it may prohibit them from enrolling on a Health and Social Care programme and gaining employment in a care or childcare setting.
Assessment is a combination of continuous assessment throughout the programme; both in college and on placement.
