Career Colleges are a new concept in education offering real industry job opportunities and input by guest speakers, site visits and projects to start your career in the sector. This course includes practical and theoretical elements of Carpentry & Joinery, providing you with the underpinning skills and knowledge to progress whilst topics at an appropriate level to begin. This programme will also offer you support, preparing you for the construction industry.
Successful completion of the Level 2 Diploma could lead onto potential careers including: working within the construction industry and working as a joiner.
During the course, you will study: Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction; Principles of Building Construction, Information and Communication; Maintain and Use Carpentry and Joinery Hand Tools; Prepare and Use Carpentry and Joinery Hand Tools; Produce Woodworking Joints.
You will need GCSE’s in Mathematics and English (minimum Grade D or equivalent) and a Level 1 qualification in Carpentry and Joinery. You will also be required to pass a trade test as-well as a literacy and numeracy test. You will be required to attend an interview and provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report).
Assessment is a combination of practical tests and written examinations.
