The aim of this course is to provide you with an introduction to the knowledge and understanding required when working within childcare, education and play-work. This provides you with the opportunity to develop basic skills in caring for children, which can be used on a personal basis, supporting parenthood or towards relevant employment.
Successful completion of this programme could allow you to progress onto a relevant Level 2 programme, such as a Level 2 Certificate in an Introduction to Caring for Children and Young People, preparing you for employment within the sector.
During the course of the programme, you will study the following: Growth and Development of Young Children; Supporting Babies Play; Practical Health and Safety when with Young Children and Science Activities for Young Children.
You will need 4 GCSEs to include Mathematics and English Language (minimum grade E) or Level 1 Functional Skills in Mathematics or English. You are also required to have two good references (one must be from an employer or a recent school/college report) and be successful at interview, showing appropriate communication skills for working with children and completing a set written assessment.
Assessment is done through a portfolio of evidence.
