If you are good with practical work & have an eye for detail, this could be a great career for you. Electricians install & maintain the equipment needed for the safe & efficient use of electricity, including fitting & repairing circuits & wiring.

What will I learn?

The Level 2 Diploma is primarily aimed at candidates aged between 16 and 18, who have been unable to gain an Electrical Installation Advanced Apprenticeship and are able to attend College on a Full Time (16 hours per week) basis, or, candidates aged 19+ wishing to gain knowledge qualifications which will help them to enter the Electrical trade.

  • City & Guilds 2365 Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installations
  • Full time students will also be required to undertake Functional Skills at Level 2 in English, Maths or ICT, or GCSE English and Maths

Study programmes are designed to provide progression to a level higher than that of a young person’s previous attainment. They include a main substantial qualification clearly linked to suitable progression opportunities in training, employment or higher levels of education.  Students who do not already have GCSE A* - C in Maths and English will continue to work towards them (or other qualifications that will act as a stepping stone for achievement of these qualifications in time).

There is an intention to provide meaningful work experience related to any vocational areas of the study programme, which develops employability skills and/or creates potential employment options.

Other activities are included unrelated to qualifications that develop the skills, attitudes and confidence that support progression.

What is the Entry Criteria?
Candidates should hold or be predicting GCSE Grade A* to C in English and Mathematics. All applicants will also be required to complete the course entry assessment tests which take place on a regular basis from February to August each year.
NOTE: GCSE Grade ‘D’ may be acceptable dependant on the results of the College Assessment.

What courses and careers could this lead to?
Successful completion of the City & Guilds 2365 Level 2 Diploma will provide the qualifications required for the first stage of an Electrical Installation Advance Apprenticeship. Students will also get an insight into working in the electrical trade. At the end of 2014/15, over 80% of our students who completed this qualification went on to gain employment in the electrical industry.

How will I be assessed?
There will be multi-choice and short answer examinations, practical skills tests and written assignments.
