A course designed to give new entrants to the engineering sector the underpinning knowledge and specific skills needed to meet the needs of modern engineering industries.
On successful completion of the BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Engineering and the GCSE, further progression to BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Electrical and Electronic or Mechanical Engineering is possible the following year, or a suitable apprenticeship.
The programme consists of a range of engineering units, introducing Electrical and Electronic Technology along with some mechanical units; for example 'Working Safely and Effectively in Engineering', 'Engineering Sciences' and 'Electronic Circuit Construction'.
You will need GCSE’s in Mathematics, English and Science (minimum Grade D or equivalent). You will also be required to pass a trade test as-well as a literacy and numeracy test. You will also be required to attend an interview and provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report).
Assessment is a combination of practical tests and written examinations.
