Fine Art covers a broad range of topics and opens up opportunities for careers in a wide variety of media including collage, textiles and mixed media, as well as more traditional painting and drawing.
You will be encouraged to develop your own creativity, backed by strong observation and will study an aspect of art and design; with a historical, philosophical, technical or physiological theme.
You will develop your personal appreciation, creativity and investigative powers in art and design and there will be an emphasis on the production of sustained end products. Units covered will require a portfolio of work, including direct observation, analysis of your own work and the work of others, and a controlled assignment with planning, preparation and realisation units.
You will need at least 5 GCSEs (minimum grade C).
Exceptions may be waived for mature students and those who have studied Textiles or Graphic Design at GCSE level, in these cases a portfolio of work will be required at interview.
Assessment is by written examination and coursework.
