Learn the techniques to make your own classical guitar
The part time course is based in the workshops of the highly regarded Newark School of Guitar Making.
The course provides an opportunity to learn the basic techniques and processes involved in making a classical guitar using the Spanish method.
It is the perfect introduction for anyone who wishes to build up specialist knowledge and skills while working at their own pace, either with a view to planning a career in the lutherie trade or just to develop a hobby and make their own instrument.
On the course students will gain practical experience in everything from guitar design to methods of construction, use of tools and finishing techniques.
Students keep a written record that documents all the stages of their work.
The course is designed for those with basic or no previous woodworking skills. The ability to play an instrument is helpful but not essential.
Assessment of progress and guidance on improvement is given throughout the course. Successful completion to a good standard could provide entry to the full time qualifications in guitar making or possibly the violin making and repair course at the college.
The course fees in 2015/16 are £300 per year. Materials can be purchased through the school or from external suppliers. These fees are subject to annual review.
