This entry level programme is designed for school leavers and young people who need extra support with learning. You will achieve a greater sense of independence and self-confidence by building on skills and strengths. Following an accredited Aim Awards qualification, you will develop the skills required for a vocation within the retail profession. Alongside the vocational strand of the course, you will also work towards your own targets and get involved with thinking of and making products to sell in the shop. You will be involved in all aspects of running the small shop we have on site; serving customers, ordering and managing the stock.
Upon completion of this programme, you are able to progress onto either the Skills for Progression or a level 1 programme if appropriate. You may also be able to progress into employment within your chosen vocational area. Careers advice will be given throughout the course to help you make this decision.
During this course, you will study: different types of retail outlets; products; displays; selling; pricing; methods of payment; marketing; ordering stock; seasonal changes; dealing with returning goods; jobs and careers in retail; safety procedures; equipment and hazards in the workplace and the importance of good communication skills, personal appearance and customer service.
