If you want to pursue a career in art and design then this is an excellent place to start. This course will provide you with the underpinning skills and knowledge to progress through the various disciplines of art and design with progession routes through Art Foundation Diploma and Higher National Diploma. It explores visual and creative processes through a series of projects that develop drawing, thinking, and practical skills in both 2-dimensions and 3 dimensions. Specialist workshops and facilities enable students to explore a wide range of subjects such as drawing, painting, illustration, printmaking, photography, Photoshop, fashion design, 3D design, textiles and ceramics. This broad approach allows the student to make informed decisions about progression and future careers within the field of Art and Design. Research and contextual studies underpin the understanding of contemporary and historical developments in art and design; gallery visits and a residential visit in year 2 support this area of study. Students are taught how to plan a project and organise time; to work independently and meet deadlines, with opportunities to exhibit work and build exciting portfolios.
You will need 4 GCSE’s including Mathematics, English and an Art of Design subject (minimum grade C) not including Expressive Arts, or a Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design.
You will be required to attend an interview, where you will be required to show your art and design ability in a portfolio of artwork. You are also required to provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report).
Assessment is a combination of individual meetings and formal assessments, where work is submitted for grading.
