The Advanced programme is the final of four years and will provide you with the experience and knowledge to progress into the trade. This course enables you to reach an advanced standard, consolidating your experience and skills. Upon successful completion you will be able to progress into employment in the sector as a professional maker or repairer. During this course you will learn to: source your own materials; carry out your own research and work independently on a range of instruments in the violin family – choosing to build cellos, violas or violins.
You will need to already hold either a Level 2 Cabinet Making or Violin Intermediate qualification. Those with equivalent woodworking experience will also be considered. A good command of spoken and written English is also essential and those from outside the UK and EU must also have a qualification in English at or above level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for languages in order to apply for a Tier 4 student visa. You will be required to attend an interview and provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report).
Assessment is through practical work. A final test is externally moderated by Beare's of London. A college certificate will be awarded to reflect pass, merit or distinction standards achieved
