Our construction Career College is the first of its kind in the UK. Our industry partners, Gelder Group, Lindum Group, Robert Woodhead, Longhurst Housing Group and ONGO Homes have shaped its curriculum, will set industry challenges and offer unique access to practical experience on their sites. Our Career College will also offer our highest performing students the chance to be fast-tracked into an apprenticeship with our employer partners – giving them the chance to earn while they learn.

Together with its partners, Lincoln College has created a balanced blend of technological qualifications and personal development of skills, giving students the knowledge, skills and attributes to enter the Construction Industry.

Qualifications and Entry Criteria

The Career College offers the opportunity to complete level 1 and 2 Diplomas. Students can start at level 1 and progress to level 2, or, if the entry requirements are met, start studying at level 2 and progress to a level 3 or an apprenticeship.

Level 1 Diploma

  • Trade options at Gainsborough include Brickwork, Carpentry & Joinery and Painting & Decorating
  • Programme includes employability skills and Functional Skills or GCSEs in English and Maths (dependent upon existing qualifications)
  • Approximately 30 hours per week in College / Work
  • A blend of practical and theory sessions
  • Progression to Level 2, employment or an apprenticeship

Experience

Satisfactory performance at Experience & Selection Day. All trades include a practical test in a workshop with the Personal Tutor. On the day you are required to wear strong footwear or safety boots and old clothes (no trainers). You will not be permitted into the workshop in trainers and the day will be abandoned.

Level 2 Diploma

  • Trade options at Gainsborough include Brickwork, Carpentry & Joinery and Painting & Decorating
  • Programme includes employability skills and Functional Skills or GCSEs in English and Maths (dependent upon existing qualifications)
  • Approximately 30 hours per week in College / Work
  • A blend of practical and theory sessions
  • Progression to appropriate Level 3 programme, employment or an apprenticeship

Entry Criteria

  • Successful completion of Level 1 Diploma in the trade area, and Functional Skills/GCSE’s
  • Suitable reference from previous Personal Tutor
  • Interview with Tutor

Construction Safety Card Scheme / Work Experience

  • You will have the opportunity to prepare for and undertake the CSCS test to prepare you for work experience
  • You will undertake work experience within the construction industry
  • You will be given support to prepare job applications and interview skills
  • You will work towards a major project that will benefit the community which may be either local or international in your final year of study

Workwear and Equipment Requirements

  • Workwear is required for all courses
  • All uniforms are purchased through one supplier and will be embroidered with the college logo. Details of how to purchase will be issued in the Summer with orders needing to be place by the beginning of August
  • General stationery will be required as standard i.e. pens, paper
  • Industry visits and competitions are offered and a contribution to costs may be requested
